Deputies: Road rage leads to chase, arrest on Interstate 5

SALEM, Ore. - Marion County sheriff's deputies arrested a Milwaukie, Ore. man who they said lost his temper and chased another car on Interstate 5 at more than 120 mph.

A deputy was driving north on Interstate 5 Saturday afternoon when a blue Honda passed him, according to sheriff's office spokesman Don Thomson. The deputy began to follow the Honda when a gray Infiniti that was chasing the Honda passed him at more than 100 mph.

The Honda and Infiniti changed lanes several times, Thomson said. The driver of the Infiniti drove onto the shoulder of the center divider at 123 mph. The driver lost control when he returned to the road and nearly collided with other cars that were driving the speed limit.

The deputy stopped the Infiniti and arrested the driver, 21-year-old Caleb Spain.

Spain told the deputy he lost his temper when the Honda passed his car.

Spain was taken to the Marion County Jail and his car was impounded. He faces one count of reckless driving.
