DeFazio holds town hall on VA, veterans issues

NORTH BEND, Ore. - In light of new legistlation directly affecting veterans, Rep. Peter DeFazio dedicated a town hall meeting to veterans issues Thursday.

DeFazio addressed an audience made up mostly of service men and women at North Bend High School.

Veterans health care issues have been a hot topic since the VA scandal in Phoenix.

DeFazio acknowledged the problems also affect veterans here in Oregon.

"The Government Accountability Office did a survey, and the survey had disturbing results here in Oregon, which will be followed up by a more thorough investigation by the inspector general," he said. "Here in roseburg, 30 percent of the respondents said that they were aware or have been asked to alter records."

DeFazio and a panel of professionals addressed public concerns.

Community members brought up many issues including a lack of information for veterans and certification requirements for VA hospital workers.
