DA: Death penalty remains an option in triple slaying case
COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) Not guilty pleas have been entered for a 65-year-old Coos County man charged with shooting and killing his wife and a neighbor couple in their homes and setting fire to the houses.
Edward L. Nelson of Bridge appeared in Coos County Circuit Court in Coquille on Tuesday.
According to court records, Judge Richard Barron entered not guilty pleas on Nelson's behalf to indictments on charges of aggravated murder and arson. A hearing was set for Aug. 12.
Nelson remains in jail on $6 million bail.
District Attorney Paul Frasier has not said whether he will seek the death penalty.
Defense attorney Geoffrey Gokey of Redmond asked the judge to approve a second lawyer to help with the case.
