Coast Guard: 4 rescued after fishing vessel crash

BROOKINGS, Ore. (AP) The Coast Guard says it rescued four people aboard a commercial fishing vessel that crashed into a jetty near Brookings.

The Coast Guard says in a statement that the vessel Jo Marie radioed at 8:16 p.m. Monday after hitting the Chetco River south jetty. There were no reports of major injuries.

A boat launched from Station Chetco River rescued the four and got them emergency medical treatment.

The Coast Guard says the fishing vessel reportedly has a fuel capacity of about 3,000 gallons, but there have been no reports of pollution.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website says the Chetco River flows into the Pacific Ocean at Brookings, 300 miles south of the mouth of the Columbia River.

Calls to the Northwest Coast Guard district went answered late Monday.
