Charlie's Place: UCC breaks ground on new campus vineyard
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Umpqua Community College has a new vineyard on campus.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for a new three-acre memorial vineyard called Charlie's Place.
The vineyard is named after Charlie Williams for his support of the region's wine industry.
Students will also be using the vineyard for hands-on experience.
"It’s real industry experience they can then take and benefit an employer or start a business of their own," said UCC’s Andy Swan.
According to UCC, the vineyard still has work that needs done before students can begin learning from it.
The college is hoping to have it up and running in the near future.
