Car exhaust sparks brush fire along I-5 near Canyonville

CANYONVILLE, Ore. - A faulty car exhaust sparked a brush fire along Interstate 5 on Wednesday morning.

The fire near Exit 103 southbound burned 1/2 an acre, the Douglas Forest Protective Association said.

Firefighters from DFPA, Tri-City Fire Department and Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire Department arrived on scene at 8:15 a.m.

"The frequency and size of fires recently in Douglas County show that we are in High Fire Danger," said Kyle Reed, DFPA Fire Prevention Specialist. "Residents are urged to use caution when working or recreating in wildland areas."

DFPA has increased fire restrictions effective Wednesday with a Regulated Use Closure for the general public and by moving to Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2.
