Body found: Police think body is that of Holly Berry

COOS BAY, Ore. -- Police say that although no official confirmation has been made, they believe the body found Thursday in Coos Bay is that of Holly Berry, 34, who went missing in January.

Authorities received a call from a man looking for cans to recycle, reporting a body had been found about 75 yards into the brush behind the vacant shopping center at Schoneman Street and Newmark.

Coos Bay Police Chief Gary McCullough says a backpack was found at the scene, which leads them to believe the body is that of Berry.

The identity has not been officially confirmed, but police believe the body will be identified as Berry.

Authorities say the body has been in the woods for a while, so there has been some decomposition, making identifying it as one of the missing women very difficult.

The medical examiner's office responded to the scene, and the body was taken to Bay Area Hospital, where an autopsy will be performed to positively identify.

Berry was last seen at around 4:00 p.m. on January 3, leaving her home at Baybridge Apartments on Norman Avenue.

Police say that at this point, there doesn't appear to be any foul play, but the investigation is continuing.

This is a developing story, and will be updated.
