Autopsy: Victim beat to death; DA: Suspect faces manslaughter

BANDON, Ore. - A man beat another man to death last week and faces manslaughter charges in the killing, the Coos County prosecutor said.William Matthew Drews died Thursday, October 3, after a fight in Bandon.An autopsy revealed that Drews died of blunt force trauma to his head and neck.The autopsy found no evidence Drews was beat with a weapon, meaning the injuries came in the fight with another person.Authorities sought Coy Daniel Smith, 40, for questioning about the fight.Law enforcement took Smith into custody on Sunday. Smith faces a charge of manslaughter in the death of Drews, District Attorney Paul Frasier said.
