Annual BBQ raises money for kids' cause
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Diggs dug deep and helped a big crowd chow down for a cause on Sunday.
The 17th annual Dick Anthony Memorial Diggs BBQ Cook Off took over River Forks Park.
The event raises money for the Mercy Foundation Children's Healthcare Fund.
Organizers say they wanted to start a delicious tradition of giving back. "Years ago, we were just sitting around talking and we wanted to do a barbecue, because everyone likes barbecue, and my husband says, 'If we're going to do it, we're going to do it for a reason. We're going to do it for the kids'," said Nancy Anthony.
The competition cook off brought in 13 teams to compete for best side, beef and other bbq treats.
Officials haven't totaled up all of the donations yet, but in the past the event has raised about $10,000.
