After high speed chase, police catch man who falls through ceiling

COOS BAY, Ore. -- After leading state police on a high speed chase Tuesday afternoon, a man tried to hide in a local business but was caught when the floor he was standing on collapsed.

Troopers say they attempted to stop a Cadillac with 3 people inside just after 4:00 pm in a residential area, when the car sped off.

Troopers say they had to back off from the pursuit due to the car being driven recklessly and lost sight of it.

A short time later the car was spotted parked in the 700 block of S. Broadway.

While police were looking for the three people, they got a tip that a person was inside the Industrial Source
building in the 500 block of S. Broadway.

Authorities say they spotted a man, later identified as Ralph J. Cagle, 32, of Coos Bay, trying to break out of the building. They say Cagle then ran upstairs.

Police surrounded the building and brought in a K-9 to track the man.

As officers were searching, they heard noise in the upper level and then saw a section of the ceiling break open. The police dog fell through to the floor and landed at a trooper's feet.

Right after that, officials say another section of the ceiling broke open and Cagle fell partially through. That's when officers grabbed him.

Cagle was wanted on 3 outstanding warrants for parole violation, second degree theft and failure to appear, police said.

In addition to the warrants, he was later lodged in the Coos County Jail for second degree burglary and second degree criminal trespass.

Officials say he may be facing more charges.

The other two people that were in the vehicle have not been identified.
