28th Blackberry Festival raises scholarship funds for Sutherlin, Oakland students
SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- The annual Blackberry Festival took place in Sutherlin last weekend, an opportunity to visit southern Oregon vendors, experience car and motorcycle shows, and devour all the blackberries you can eat.
This year’s winner of the blackberry cooking competition and chili cook-off happened to be the same woman.
"I made a blackberry barbeque sauce,” said winner Rhonda Seekins. “It was really good; it turned out really good. My kids are like wanting me to make them a batch of BBQ chicken now at home. Yes, it turned out really good. I really liked it."
This year's Blackberry Festival carried on a decades-old tradition of raising college scholarship money for Sutherlin and Oakland high school students.
