14-year-old crashes pickup into river while trying to elude an officer

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A teenager from Winston was arrested on Sunday afternoon after crashing into a river upon attempting to elude an officer who was trying to stop him for a traffic violation.

The male teen was driving a Dodge pickup down Carnes Road and Del Drive, and then was pursued by the deputy down Austin Road. The short pursuit ended when the driver crashed the pickup into a river.

The driver was later identified as a 14-year-old Winston juvenile who was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the pursuit. The male was taken into custody, as well as being transported to the Mercy Medical Center for evaluation, where he was later released.

The juvenile is being lodged at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention facility, where he has been charged with Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle and Criminal Mischief.
