'Fiddler on the Roof' set to open at UCC

WINCHESTER, Ore. -- The Oregon Musical Theatre Festival is kicking off with the well known musical Fiddler on the Roof.

It's one of 18 performances on the schedule at Umpqua Community College.

Diana Roberts plays 'Golde,' and says the musical is something people living today can relate to. "The story is about a Jewish family living in Russia in 1905, who are dealing with changing social norms," Roberts said. "Very similar to what families go through today."

Jacob Holland, who is playing the part of 'Teyve,' agrees, saying it's something fun for the whole family. "This production is a wonderful community event," he said. "I'm getting to work with people from all age groups. I really am enjoying the children, this is very exciting for me."

Fiddler on the Roof is on stage July 25 through July 28.
